Back to the Basics

Today I decided to re-start myself after all of the crazy eating and non-working out for the past few weeks.  I started the morning with protein pancakes.  So good and so very healthy and filling!!
Protein Pancakes:
(for 1 serving)
1/2 c. rolled oats (you can blend half of them if you want a smoother texture in the pancake)
1/4 c. egg whites
blueberries
1/2 tsp. agave nectar (or more if you like it really sweet)
cinnamon (to taste)
vanilla extract (to taste)

Mix everything together and cook like you cook normal pancakes.  I am going to eat them again for breakfast tomorrow but add sliced bananas as my legs have been cramping and I need more potassium in my diet.

I ate so healthy today!  Salad for lunch, Kombucha and almonds for a snack and YUMMY citrus tilapia with black beans and rice for dinner.  Trying really hard this week not to eat wheat.  I find myself feeling much more energized and just all around better when I don't eat wheat, and I don't have as many crazy cravings for sugar and snacky foods when I don't eat wheat.  (I also won't eat tons of potatoes or rice where I would eat TONS of pasta or bread if I could... ha ha).

I so did not want to go to the gym tonight...but thank goodness for the gym girls!  We all showed up and with the help of our amazing trainer and spin instructor got through an intense 45 minute spin class and a 1/2 hour kinesis class (double muscle group day is a killer!).

I am now setting up my intense play list for the gym tomorrow... def. including some awesome 80's hits and some amazing re-mixs of pop hits that I FINALLY found in itunes.  Let's hope it gets me through 40 minutes of cardio so I'm already for yoga tomorrow night (finally stretching time!!)!

New Year Resolutions

Every year, people come up with their new years resolutions.  Usually they incorporate working out and eating healthier.  For the first time in my life, working out is NOT one of my new years resolutions.  I'm already doing that.  It's very wierd for me to sit back and think about what I'm going to change in the new year and the one thing that I've always said I need to change-I actually am.  That means that there are other things that I need to add into or change my life instead...

So this year-I'm not making resolutions.  Instead-I'm making of list of ways I want to better myself...simple things I am going to do slowly to make myself a better person.

Le'ts Get this Started!

Here is the first post to this blog... let it be the first of many! :)

Happy New Year to all!!!  My new year's eve was amazing... spent it with friends, margaritas, quacamole and tacos! :)  YUM!  Tomorrow it's back to the real world as I head back to Baltimore and back to the gym.  I've taken the past week off of the gym and am actually excited (and quite nervous becuase I probobly will have lost some of the progress I've made) to get back.  What I'm not excited about?... the UBER long lines for spin and the crazy full group ex. classes becuase of everyone and their mother that joins the gym on January 1st.  I know that sounds bitchy (I was that person a bunch of times), but it just gets annoying to have to get in line for spin 30 minutes before the class even starts.  But whatever... let's hope it's not as busy as usual. :)  And congrats to all of those that are joining the gym and making healthier choices for thier lives!  (Look at me starting the year out making negative things into positives!)

Back to the Real World...

I came back to Baltimore on Monday and it has been rough getting back into my routine.  I was  NOT looking forward to going back to the gym... I enjoyed my 2 week "break" and was thinking that maybe I would take a few more days off... knowing full well that I couldn't actually do this-my trainer would kick my ass!  :)
So... Off to the gym I went on Wednesday.  It was a spin and kinesis day.  I was dreading spin...If I take more then a week off, I feel like I'm spinning into a brick wall for most of the class.  My gym friends and I arrived at the gym 45 minutes early (gotta love the huge amount of people that show up to the gym in January) and we got on line for the spin class.  Surprise, surprise... getting there 45 minutes early means your the first ones on line!  So... we got our new favorite seats- #1, #2, and #3 in the front row-right in front of the instructor.  I started spinning and it was not fun... I kept starring at the clock for the first 10 minutes praying the class would be over soon.
And then it happened.... finally I spun through the brick wall and the endorphins started... I had forgotten what that felt like after taking 2 weeks off.  I LOVED IT!  I love that feeling when you finally realize that you're doing something for yourself and you are accomplishing something that you set out to do!  I pushed myself SO hard and was VERY proud of myself after that class.
I then proceeded to kick my butt Thursday and Friday at the gym as well.  I'm finally not that sore anymore.  And am now getting ready for another ass kicking week at the gym!
This weeks goal: eat healthy (no more marshmallows for breakfast and random leftovers for dinner-unless they're healthy planned leftovers).
